Welcome

Are suggested guidelines enough to encourage change in environmental practices, or is it necessary to implement mandatory policies to create a more sustainable campus?
Individuals, groups, and institutions are becoming increasingly concerned with climate change. As the attention around "being green" grows, so do the list of guidelines that people can follow to minimize their impact on the earth. These guidelines can be mere suggestions toward individuals to recycle more or turning off the lights when they leave the room, or towards institutions to use energy saving technologies. Guidelines can be helpful to those who are interested in helping the planet, but are they really enough?
This website suggests that implementing mandatory policies would have a larger impact that is needed to mitigate the negative effects people can have on the plant.  A policy would help get those involved who know little about reducing their impact or set in place standards for larger institutions to follow.  The recommendations are based on social science research.
